1. Information we collect
Garage Light is a presence app. We collect only what we need to run your account, your invitation-only groups, and the garage-light signal.
That includes your Sign in with Apple or Google identifier, display name, optional profile photo, the groups you create or join, and whether your light is on (including timer end time). If you set a garage pin, we store that coordinate on your user record so we can turn your light off when you leave home. Your group never sees the pin. We also store a push token so we can notify your group when a light changes. We do not continuously track your movement, and we do not build a public map of anyone’s location.
2. How we use information
We use this information to show whose light is on inside groups you belong to, to send those notifications, to run widgets and Live Activities, and to auto-off your light if you leave the area around your pin. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell it.
3. Sharing and third parties
We host the service on Google Firebase (authentication, database, storage, and push). Firebase processes data on our behalf. Group members can see your display name, photo, and whether your light is on. We do not share membership lists or light status with advertisers or data brokers. We may disclose information if required by law.
4. Cookies and tracking
This website is static. It does not set advertising cookies, analytics pixels, or cross-site trackers. The apps use Firebase session tokens so you stay signed in. We do not use App Tracking Transparency because we do not track you across other companies’ apps.
5. Data security
Traffic uses HTTPS. Access to groups is limited by invite codes and server-side rules: only members of a group can see that group’s lights. This is not end-to-end encryption. People in your group can see when your light is on. Keep groups small and invite only people you trust.
6. Your rights (including GDPR / CCPA)
You can change your name and photo in Account. You can leave a group, or an owner can remove a member. You can request that we delete your account — profile, photo, memberships, lights, push tokens, and home pin — from Account in the app, or by emailing hello@garagelight.app. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, or export your information, and to opt out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
7. Children’s privacy
Garage Light is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date. Material changes will also be noted in the app when we can.
